My inspiration for this peice war Barbara Kruger and her feminist approach to her art work. I wanting to bring to the attention of the viewer that no matter what clothing a woman is wearing she is not asking for rape. While creating this i decided not to show the face because that in my opinion was not the main focus also by not giving the figure an identity I wanted the viewer to be able to see any type of woman in the photo. The clothing that a woman is wearing is not what defines her and that is the message I wanted to portray in this piece.

This piece was inspired by religion and the influence of the church. I've always struggles with the idea of religion and wondered how people could be so devout to something. By placing the cross on top of the head with root like things wrapping around it I wanted to show how deeply ingrained ideas can become, almost to the point of brainwashing. Much like a plant and idea gets planted into someones head and grows eventually forming who they are and how they think.

I titled this piece “Watch Your Mouth” to show that now matter where you are someone is always watching you, listening to you. Nothing is ever kept secret unless it is kept to yourself and shared with nobody else. The man in the print looks distressed because he has so much to say but the way other would interpret it holds him back. I think that this is one of the pieces that should be redone and add more detail to it.

My inspiration for this project was the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” my interest was the character who was a foot washing baptist. I took the styrofoam and formed them into the rocks that I needed and covered them with painful object. Symbolic for the walk of life and how foot washing baptists believe that in order to reach eternal peace you have to suffer in this life. Which is why with each step someone were to take on these stones they would be tortured.
Self Portrait
" Isabela"
My original intentions for this piece were to imitate Monet’s piece “La Promenade” but instead making myself the woman with the parasol. I wanted to layer the paint in the style of Monet. The paint chosen for the piece, acrylic, was the biggest challenge throughout the creation of the piece. My technique was using long strokes with thick players of paint for the sky like a Monet and smaller stokes on the facial features and the dress like Manet would do, incorporating the techniques of two artists from the impressionism movement.

This piece is set up to look as if I am the one looking out onto the city, My eyes hovering over the styline which isn't fully exposed. This is because this is only the beginning of my life, yes this is my city, yet i'm not sure what city I will find myself in next. The macaroni sun and the building are what i would admire my days in the summer driving around downtown and eating in my favorite cafe. the footprints are going off the canvas to show that I will most likely leave this city and find myself in a new one.

This sculpture shows how as industry grows we destroy the naturals resources we have around us. Rather than try to protect it we take every opportunity to destroy is and it is then called growth. The figure is running from the hand because it wants to survive and even when buildings become abandoned nature always takes over yet it is never the same. The hand has appeared out of no where kind of like when natural resources “disappear” out of nowhere. The cause is well known but it can't be pinpointed who exactly did it.

This piece portrays a woman body which is also a vessel for human life usually that aspect of the female body goes unrecognized and is instead portrayed as a sexual object. Women are not supposed to have body hair because its not “sexy” yet its natural and every one has it so I showed that in the places that someone would not want to see body hair exposed. Also showing the beauty that the female body can have by the use of flowers.

In the piece the Japanese characters on the left sire of the piece read "Work", "Money", and "Death". With this piece I wanted to show how we are all made to follow this outline of going to school, get a job, make money; for the rest of your life. This piece was influence by the Japanese culture and the word Karoshi which translates into "death from being over worked". I wanted to show that in the constant pursuit to make money life has gone to waste.
